Background on Greater Anglia Services
Greater Anglia services along the Great Eastern mainline are currently running to all scheduled destinations, including Southend Victoria, Chelmsford, Colchester, Ipswich, and Norwich. This comes amid ongoing engineering work between Cambridge station and Ely, which has necessitated bus replacements for certain routes during specific dates.
In a significant development for the region, the Beaulieu Park station opened in October 2025, marking the first new station on the Great Eastern Main Line in over 100 years. The new station offers up to four trains per hour at peak times and two trains per hour off-peak, with fast direct services to London Liverpool Street taking approximately 40 minutes and services to Colchester taking around 25 minutes.
Current Disruptions
Recently, a serious incident occurred when a person was hit by a train between Shenfield and Ilford, causing all lines to be blocked. Emergency services are currently on route to the location of the incident, and disruption is expected until further notice. A spokesperson for Greater Anglia expressed regret for the impact on passengers, stating, “Greater Anglia and Network Rail are sorry if your journey has been affected by this disruption.”
Passengers who experience delays of 15 minutes or more may be eligible for compensation under the Delay Repay scheme. Observers note that the situation is evolving, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Looking Ahead
As the Easter holiday approaches, Jamie Burles, a representative from Greater Anglia, reassured travelers, saying, “This Easter the majority of the railway across East Anglia will be open for passengers to enjoy their long Easter bank holiday to the city, country or coast.” This statement aims to alleviate concerns about accessibility and travel planning for passengers.
Rebecca Richardson, involved in the station’s development, emphasized the importance of the new Beaulieu Park station, stating, “The idea was to create a tool for customers to assist them with their journey planning and reduce the anxiety about whether the station would create any accessibility barriers, so that they can travel with confidence.” This initiative reflects Greater Anglia’s commitment to improving passenger experience in the region.
