Jack Colback Announces Retirement
Jack Colback has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 36. The midfielder made a total of 480 professional club appearances during his career, showcasing his talent across several prominent clubs in England.
Colback began his career with Sunderland, where he made 135 appearances before moving to Newcastle United in 2014. At Newcastle, he contributed significantly, making 102 appearances and being part of the squad that won the Championship title in the 2016-17 season.
His career also included a stint at Nottingham Forest, where he initially joined on loan before making a permanent transfer in 2020. Colback later joined Queens Park Rangers in the summer of 2023, where he made 53 appearances.
Throughout his time in the Premier League, Colback made 189 appearances, scoring 9 goals and providing 11 assists. He expressed his gratitude for the experiences he had, stating, “Today, I’m announcing my retirement from professional football. I feel privileged to have the honour of playing nearly 500 matches at the top level, representing some of the biggest clubs in the country in Newcastle, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich and Queen’s Park Rangers.”
Reflecting on his career, Colback noted, “There have been highs, lows, promotions, tough defeats, and moments I’ll never forget. I would like to thank all of my coaches, teammates and supporters who helped me to achieve my dream. Looking forward to what the next chapter holds.”
Colback was also capped once by England’s under-20s in 2009 and received a call-up to the senior England squad in August 2014, although he had to withdraw due to injury.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding his future plans following retirement, but observers expect him to remain involved in football in some capacity.
