Instagram is experiencing a global outage affecting thousands of users, with reports indicating that the disruption began at approximately 7:40 a.m. IST on March 11. As of 10:03 PM EST on March 10, over 6,000 users had reported issues on Downdetector.
According to user feedback, more than 10,000 individuals have encountered problems with the app. A significant 71% of complaints were related to difficulties accessing Instagram, while 20% reported server connection issues. Additionally, 5% of users noted that their Instagram feed or timeline was not loading properly.
The outage has particularly impacted major U.S. cities, including Los Angeles, Phoenix, Chicago, Washington, and New York. Users have expressed their frustrations on social media, with one user stating, “Is Instagram down? I can’t reply to my friend,” while another exclaimed, “Instagram down I REPEAT INSTAGRAM DOWN.”
During the outage, Instagram’s messaging system became completely non-functional, prompting users to turn to alternative platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger to continue their conversations. Reports indicate that 68% of complaints involved app disruptions, 19% were related to server connection issues, and 7% concerned posting troubles.
Instagram has acknowledged the situation, with their communications team stating, “We are aware some of you might be experiencing issues with IG at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.” However, the cause of the disruption remains unclear, and it is not yet known when services will be fully restored.
