Jack Colback Announces Retirement

Jack Colback has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 36. The midfielder concluded his career after making an impressive 480 professional club appearances.

Throughout his career, Colback played for several prominent clubs, including Sunderland, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich Town, and Queens Park Rangers. He made 135 appearances for Sunderland and 102 for Newcastle United, showcasing his talent in the English football leagues.

Colback’s time in the Premier League was notable, with 189 appearances across Sunderland, Newcastle, and Nottingham Forest. He scored 9 goals and provided 11 assists during his time in the top tier of English football.

In a statement regarding his retirement, Colback expressed gratitude for his experiences, saying, “Today, I’m announcing my retirement from professional football. I feel privileged to have the honour of playing nearly 500 matches at the top level, representing some of the biggest clubs in the country in Newcastle, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich and Queen’s Park Rangers.”

Colback’s career highlights include being part of the Sunderland squad that reached the Carabao Cup final in the 2013-14 season and winning the Championship title with Newcastle United in the 2016-17 season.

He joined Nottingham Forest initially on loan before making a permanent transfer in 2020, and later signed with Queens Park Rangers in the summer of 2023, where he made 53 appearances.

Colback also had a brief international career, being capped once by England’s under-20s in 2009 and receiving a call-up to the senior squad in August 2014, although he withdrew due to injury.
