“I promise that you will not be disappointed and I will make you proud,” Joe Exotic, whose real name is Joseph Maldonado, stated in a recent letter to Colorado Governor Jared Polis. Exotic, currently serving a 21-year prison sentence on 17 federal charges of animal abuse and two charges of attempting to hire a hitman, is seeking a clemency swap with fellow inmate Tina Peters.
Peters is serving a nine-year sentence for unauthorized access to voting equipment related to the 2020 election. Exotic’s proposal comes as he battles prostate and lung cancer, adding urgency to his request for clemency.
In his letter, Exotic expressed confidence that Polis would find a way to coordinate with President Trump’s team to facilitate the swap. “I am confident that you will find it within you to coordinate with President Trump’s team to swap my clemency for Tina Peters clemency,” he wrote.
