Maxx Crosby Trade Falls Through
The Baltimore Ravens have backed out of a trade agreement to acquire defensive end Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders, a move that was expected to significantly bolster their defense. The trade was set to send Crosby to the Ravens in exchange for two first-round draft picks, but complications arose when Crosby failed a physical examination required for the deal to be finalized.
In January, Crosby underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, which has raised concerns about his health. Despite this setback, his agent, CJ LaBoy, reported that Crosby is recovering well and is reportedly ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation process. “Maxx continues to be on track in his recovery and if anything is ahead of schedule according to his surgeon,” LaBoy stated.
Last season, Crosby had an impressive performance, recording 10 sacks and a career-high 28 tackles for loss. Over his seven years with the Raiders, he has accumulated a total of 69.5 sacks and 133 tackles for loss, establishing himself as one of the league’s top defensive players since being drafted in 2019. His addition was seen as a potential game-changer for the Ravens, who finished tied for 28th in the league with only 30 sacks last season.
Despite his on-field success, Crosby expressed frustration with the Raiders after being placed on injured reserve in December. He signed a three-year, $106.5 million contract extension last March, but his future with the team is now uncertain due to his injury history and the current situation surrounding the Raiders, who own the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft and are expected to select Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza.
The Ravens had initially agreed to send the No. 14 pick in this year’s draft and their 2027 first-round pick to the Raiders for Crosby. However, with the trade now off the table, the Ravens will need to explore other options to address their defensive needs.
The addition of Crosby was supposed to be the piece to help the Ravens make a serious challenge for the Super Bowl. However, with the trade collapsing, the team must now reassess its strategy moving forward.
