The Community Shield 2026 is set to feature English champions Arsenal and FA Cup winners Manchester City at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. This fixture traditionally pits the previous season’s Premier League champions against the FA Cup winners. However, the statistics suggest that winning this curtain-raiser does not frequently lead to a Premier League title in the same season.
Since the Premier League began in 1992-93, only eight of the 34 winners of the Charity or Community Shield have gone on to win the league. A notable period saw five of these instances occur between 2005 and 2010. Manchester City in 2019 was the last team to achieve this, preceded by Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United in 2011. Only one of the past 15 Community Shield winners has subsequently become league champions that season.

The performance of goalscorers in the Community Shield has shown varied outcomes regarding their subsequent season. For example, Crystal Palace‘s 2025 scorers, Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ismaila Sarr, collectively scored 37 goals in the following season. In 2023, Cole Palmer scored for Manchester City against Arsenal in a match they lost on penalties. He then went on to score 22 Premier League goals and was named young player of the season after joining Chelsea.
Conversely, Kelechi Iheanacho scored only four Premier League goals after his 2021 Community Shield winner. In 2022, Darwin Nunez scored on his Liverpool debut in the Shield, while Erling Haaland did not score on his Manchester City debut. Despite initial discussions suggesting Nunez looked the better player, Haaland went on to score 52 goals that season, compared to Nunez’s 15.
Ahead of the 2026 fixture, Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca provided an update on his squad. Many players have recently returned after participating in the World Cup, potentially impacting team selection. Ryan McAidoo is the only player to have suffered a minor setback during pre-season, picking up a slight shoulder issue. Maresca confirmed that McAidoo has already worked with the team and that all other players are fit, though some only recently rejoined the squad.
Erling Haaland, who sat out some training sessions, is confirmed to be fit for the start of the season, having experienced some minor heel issues. Rodri is currently in rehabilitation at the CFA following minor back surgery after the World Cup. Maresca noted that the challenge for Rodri is his readiness to rejoin full training sessions with the team.

Fans planning to attend the FA Community Shield 2026 at the Principality Stadium are advised to plan their travel in advance due to expected road congestion and limited rail services. Both Manchester City and Arsenal supporters have dedicated parking options available.
For Manchester City supporters, coach parking is located at Civic Centre, a 20-minute walk from the stadium and city centre, costing £30 per coach plus a booking fee. Car parking for Manchester City fans is also at Civic Centre, priced at £20 per car plus a booking fee. If this sells out, a park and ride service will be available.
Arsenal supporters have coach parking on Lloyd George Avenue, also a 20-minute walk to the stadium and city centre, at £30 per coach plus a booking fee. Their park and ride service is located at Cardiff City Stadium, offering a ten-minute bus journey with drop-off and pick-up on Fitzhamon Embankment. Alternatively, the stadium is within a 25-minute walk from the park and ride site. The first bus departs at 10am and the last bus at 7pm, with car parking costing £20 plus a booking fee.
General admission tickets for Manchester City’s home 2026/27 Premier League fixtures are now on sale to Premium, Matchday, and Junior Members. Season Ticket Members can also purchase additional tickets for selected games, with match-by-match ticket prices for junior and adult Matchday Members retained at the same rate for a third consecutive season.
