Devon Players Contribute to Charity
Players in Devon have helped raise over £7 million through the People’s Postcode Lottery, a significant contribution that supports the vital work of Mary’s Meals.
This funding has enabled 478,968 children to receive meals every school day, a crucial initiative that encourages learning and provides hope to many families.
Impact of the Funding
To date, more than 39 million meals have been served in 16 countries, showcasing the extensive reach of Mary’s Meals. The charity now serves daily meals to over three million children globally, with half of those being girls.
The decade-long partnership with the People’s Postcode Lottery has been instrumental in expanding the charity’s operations, allowing it to reach children in countries such as Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Zambia, Madagascar, Ethiopia, and South Sudan.
Statements from Officials
Laura Chow, a spokesperson for the People’s Postcode Lottery, remarked, “It’s fantastic to know that for a decade our players have supported the essential work of Mary’s Meals- and have now raised an incredible £7 million to help children across the globe access nutritious meals.”
Gemma Love from Mary’s Meals expressed gratitude for the support, stating, “We are incredibly grateful to People’s Postcode Lottery players in Devon, whose ongoing support is helping us reach more children than ever before with a daily school meal that encourages learning, brings hope and changes lives.”
As the charity continues its mission, they aim to reach an additional 462,000 children by early 2025, further demonstrating the impact of community support.
One child, Efigénia, shared her experience, saying, “With school meals, I feel good because even with a lack of food at home, here at school I have a meal and I can study.” This highlights the importance of the program in transforming lives.
Gemma Love concluded, “Seeing the difference this support makes for children and communities inspires us to keep going and to reach even more children in the years ahead.” The ongoing commitment from players of the People’s Postcode Lottery continues to play a crucial role in this mission.
