He believes that defending the Premier League title could benefit Arsenal, as the team appeared weighed down by expectations in their previous pursuit of the championship. Now, having achieved success, Keown wants to see them play without fear and aim to win the title again. He also stated that Arsenal should not choose between domestic and European glory, encouraging the team to pursue both.
Keown recalled telling Patrick Vieira and Emmanuel Petit after France‘s 1998 World Cup triumph that their medals meant nothing once the new season began, stressing the importance of a continuous winning mentality. This mentality, he believes, should now drive Arteta’s champions, as many of the players are at the beginning of their careers with much more to achieve.
