Bayern Munich winger Jamal Musiala has disclosed he is experiencing “treatable absence seizures” following two collapses on the pitch within four days. The 23-year-old stated there is no long-term health risk associated with his condition.
Musiala fell during a friendly match against Heidenheim on Tuesday night, approximately eight minutes after entering the game as a substitute. This incident followed a similar occurrence during a friendly against RB Leipzig on Saturday.
Musiala’s Health Update
Musiala addressed the situation on Instagram, expressing gratitude for the messages and support he has received. He aimed to alleviate concerns by explaining his diagnosis. He stated, “I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary – but treatable – absence seizures resulting from a neurological dysfunction.”
He acknowledged that these incidents, such as those seen against Leipzig and Heidenheim, might appear alarming. However, Musiala noted that for him, they are currently a part of his daily life. He confirmed he is receiving excellent medical care and remains optimistic about his condition.
Musiala also highlighted the support from FC Bayern and his personal network, stating they are assisting him through this period. Crucially, he reiterated that there is no further health risk involved with his condition.
The Germany international shared that, following close consultation and regular contact with experts, it was his personal desire to face this challenge. With medical clearance from neurologists, he intends to continue pursuing his passion for playing football, as he believes it aids his recovery.
During the Heidenheim match, Musiala came on for Ismael Saibari after 61 minutes but was replaced by Cassiano Kiala eight minutes later. He appeared disoriented while receiving medical attention and was helped off the pitch.

Club’s Awareness and Match Details
Max Eberl, Bayern’s sporting director, sought to downplay concerns shortly after the Heidenheim game. Eberl mentioned that the club was aware of Musiala’s situation, stating, “Jamal will speak about this in the near future. We knew about it and we are aware of the situation.”
The match against Heidenheim concluded with Bayern winning 4-2. Goals for Bayern were scored by Felipe Chávez, Arijon Ibrahimovic, Luis Díaz, and Nathaniel Brown. Musiala had also required medical attention after collapsing in the friendly against RB Leipzig.
Musiala emphasized that he has taken full responsibility for his decision to continue playing, and he feels positive about his progress. He expressed that continuing to chase victories and titles with his team and the support of fans is what helps him most on this journey.
He concluded his statement by hoping his explanation provides a better understanding of the situation, while also requesting privacy regarding the matter, wishing to share it only with his closest circle, the club, and medical experts. The player had previously missed several months due to a fractured fibula during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and later experienced an ankle setback.

The club’s awareness of Musiala’s condition prior to his public statement suggests ongoing medical management and support. His determination to continue playing, backed by medical clearance, highlights his commitment to his career despite the recent incidents.
The 23-year-old’s transparency regarding his health condition aims to reassure supporters and provide clarity on the collapses observed during the recent friendly matches.
